Privacy policy
This policy describes what data a visit to this website processes and why. It also applies to our apps and products (see the product overview); product-specific notes are in the respective sections below. It addresses visitors in the European Union and in the United States.

The controller is the company named above. For data protection questions, please write to the email address given there.
Hosting and access log
This website runs on a server of IONOS SE in Germany. On every request the application logs the IP address, the time, the requested URL and the browser identifier. We need this to detect faults and fend off attacks; the legal basis is our legitimate interest in secure operation (Article 6(1)(f) GDPR). The logs rotate and are overwritten once the space reserved for them is used up. They are not merged with other data.
Contact form
When you use the contact form, we process your name, your email address, the subject and your message in order to answer your enquiry. The legal basis is the performance of pre-contractual measures (Article 6(1)(b) GDPR), or our legitimate interest in answering (point f) where there is no contractual context. The data is stored in our database on the same server in Germany. We delete it once the enquiry is settled and no statutory retention duty applies. The form contains a field only automated senders fill in; if it is filled, we discard the enquiry without evaluating it.
Storage in your browser
This website sets no cookies. We place three values in your browser's local storage: your chosen language, your light or dark display preference, and a note that you have seen the related notice. These values do not leave your device and are not transmitted to us. Because they are required for the function you asked for, no consent is needed (§ 25(2) TDDDG, the German act on data protection in digital services). You can delete them at any time through your browser settings.
No analytics, no advertising
We use no analytics tools, no advertising networks, no tracking pixels and no social media embeds. The links to our profiles on Facebook, Twitter and GitHub are plain links: only when you click one do you leave this website, and the terms of that provider apply. Advertising in the Himmelklar, Scary Recipes and HarleyMobile apps is described in the respective sections below; it does not concern a visit to this website.
Fonts
The typeface used on this website is served from our own server. Loading the page does not open a connection to Google Fonts or any other provider.
AI-assisted content
Some articles on this website are produced with the support of generative AI systems, and the cover images of the blog posts are created with such a system. This concerns our editorial process, not your visit: no visitor data is transmitted to AI services. Generated images are labelled as such, see the imprint.
Recipients and transfers to third countries
We pass your data on only where necessary for operation (to our host) or where we are legally obliged to. Visiting this website involves no transfer to a third country: the server is in Germany and the page loads no resources from outside providers. Because the responsible company is established in the United States, access to the stored data from there is possible, which is a transfer to a third country without an adequacy decision. We base it on the European Commission's Standard Contractual Clauses.
Retention
We store personal data only as long as required for the respective purpose and delete it afterwards, unless statutory retention duties apply. Access logs follow the rotation described above, contact enquiries end with the enquiry being settled.
No automated decision-making
No automated decision in an individual case, including profiling, takes place (Article 22 GDPR).
Your rights
- Access to the processed data (Article 15 GDPR)
- Rectification of inaccurate data (Article 16 GDPR)
- Erasure (Article 17 GDPR)
- Restriction of processing (Article 18 GDPR)
- Data portability (Article 20 GDPR)
- Objection to processing based on legitimate interests (Article 21 GDPR)
Please use the address given above. Independently of that you may lodge a complaint with a data protection supervisory authority. Competent is the authority of your habitual residence, your place of work or the place of the alleged infringement.
Notice for visitors in the United States
We do not sell personal information and do not share it for payment. This website does not process data for behavioural advertising. For apps that show advertising (Himmelklar, Scary Recipes, HarleyMobile), the sections on those apps apply: personalized advertising only with consent, otherwise non-personalized advertising. This policy states the categories of data processed, the purposes and the recipients, and it describes how we announce changes. We do not respond separately to the „Do Not Track“ signal some browsers send, because we do not track how visitors use this website. For access and deletion requests, use the same address as above.
Apps and products
DX.ZIP (iOS/iPadOS app)
DX.ZIP is an app for iPhone and iPad. The app does not collect, store or transmit personal data. There is no analytics, no tracking, no advertising, no accounts and no servers of our own.
ZIP archives are processed exclusively on the device. Temporary copies may be created in the app sandbox; they are deleted again. An export happens only when you start it, and then through the iOS file picker.
The one-time in-app purchase is processed entirely by Apple via the App Store. The developer receives no payment data and no personal data in that process. Apple's privacy policy applies to that processing.
The controller and the contact details are the same as in the “Controller” section of this policy.
Himmelklar (iOS and Android app)
Himmelklar is a weather app for iPhone and Android devices. It shows a weather forecast, a seasonal trend, an aurora outlook, severe-weather alerts (Storm Watch) and, in mountain regions, the avalanche danger. The app interface is available in German, English and Spanish.
Saved places and settings stay only on the device. There is no user account. We do not operate a server of our own for the app and use no analytics tools. The app calls the following services directly from the device.
For its functions the app calls these services:
- Open-Meteo: weather forecast via api.open-meteo.com, seasonal trend via seasonal-api.open-meteo.com, place search via geocoding-api.open-meteo.com
- BigDataCloud: place name and country for a location (reverse geocoding)
- National Weather Service via the api.weather.gov interface (severe-weather alerts in the United States)
- NOAA Space Weather Prediction Center (SWPC), National Hurricane Center (NHC) and Storm Prediction Center (SPC)
- MeteoAlarm (severe-weather alerts in Europe)
- Avalanche services: avalanche bulletins of the European warning services (EAWS) via the Euregio’s avalanche.report, avalanche.org for the United States and Avalanche Canada
For the weather forecast and the seasonal trend the app sends the exact coordinates of the place to Open-Meteo, for place search the place name you enter. Open-Meteo is established in Switzerland. Open-Meteo’s privacy notice applies.
The other services receive the following: BigDataCloud gets the exact coordinates, because it determines a place name and country from them. api.weather.gov gets coordinates only for places in the United States, rounded to four decimal places (accurate to about 10 meters). MeteoAlarm, the NOAA services and the avalanche services get no coordinates: the app downloads data for a whole country, a region or the whole world there and picks the matching entry on the device. On every request the provider receives the device’s IP address, because it is part of the request.
The legal basis for this transmission is providing the function you request by using the app (Article 6(1)(b) GDPR).
api.weather.gov, the NOAA services and avalanche.org are operated in the United States, Avalanche Canada in Canada. Data the app sends there is transferred to a third country. MeteoAlarm and avalanche.report are European services. BigDataCloud processes the transmitted coordinates as its own provider; details are in that provider’s own notices.
The free version of the app shows advertising through Google AdMob. On iOS the app uses the device’s advertising identifier (IDFA) only after you have consented through Apple’s App Tracking Transparency (ATT). On Android Google AdMob uses the device’s advertising ID.
In the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom and Switzerland the app asks for your consent on both platforms through Google’s User Messaging Platform (UMP). If you decline, the advertising is not personalized. You can change that choice via the privacy settings in the app.
The legal basis for personalized advertising and for use of the advertising identifier is your consent (Article 6(1)(a) GDPR). Non-personalized advertising, which funds the free version, is based on our legitimate interest (Article 6(1)(f) GDPR). You withdraw consent via the privacy settings in the app. You can object to processing based on legitimate interests using the contact address in the “Controller” section. The lawfulness of processing until withdrawal or objection is not affected.
How Google uses information from apps that use its services is set out in Google’s note on websites and apps that use Google services. Google’s privacy policy also applies.
The “Remove ads” purchase is processed by Apple via the App Store on iOS and by Google via Google Play on Android. We receive no payment data. The legal basis is performance of that purchase (Article 6(1)(b) GDPR). Apple’s privacy policy or Google’s privacy policy applies to that processing.
The app is not directed at children.
All app data stays on the device and is deleted together with the app. You can reset the advertising ID in the device settings.
The controller and the contact details are the same as in the “Controller” section of this policy.
Scary Recipes (iOS app)
Scary Recipes is a free seasonal recipe browser for iPhone and iPad, published by Developer Experts, LLC. The app does not ask you to sign in.
Favorites are stored only on your device. Uninstalling the app deletes them. There is no user account and no server of our own that stores favorites.
When online search is on, the app sends seasonal search words, and any search you type, to TheMealDB (themealdb.com) so it can return recipe names, pictures and links. TheMealDB is a third party; their own site explains how they handle that request. The bundled offline shelf works with no network call.
Illustrations shipped inside the app are original art for Scary Recipes. Photos loaded from TheMealDB stay on their servers and are shown with a link back. The app shows only a short teaser and a few ingredients. The full method stays on the original publisher page.
The App Store build shows Google AdMob ads (Google Mobile Ads SDK). In the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom and Switzerland, Google’s consent message (UMP) runs before ads load. On iPhone and iPad, Apple’s App Tracking Transparency (ATT) prompt appears before ads load. If you decline, you can keep using the app.
If you allow tracking, Google may use a device identifier to measure and personalize ads. We do not sell personal data. You can change your advertising consent at any time in the app under About, “Ad privacy choices”.
Scary Recipes is not directed at children under 13.
The controller and the contact details are the same as in the “Controller” section of this policy. This app section was last updated on 1 November 2026.
HarleyMobile (iOS app)
HarleyMobile is an unofficial info magazine for Harley riders on iPhone, published by Developer Experts, LLC. The app shows scenic rides, coffee and biker stops, dealers, events and the weather. HarleyMobile is not affiliated with Harley-Davidson.
The app requires no sign-in and there is no user account. We do not operate a server of our own that stores user data.
Rides, stops, dealers and events are included in the app. The app does not transmit any location to show this content.
The app can, if you allow it, use your approximate location, only while you use the app. It uses it to sort dealers and rides by distance. The location is processed only on the device, not stored and not sent to us or to advertising partners. Without permission the app sorts by region. You can revoke the permission at any time in the iOS Settings. The legal basis is providing the feature you request in the app (Article 6(1)(b) GDPR).
For the weather forecast the app uses Apple WeatherKit. To do so, the app sends the coordinates of the selected ride or place to Apple so that Apple can return the forecast. The app does not continuously send the device location for this. How Apple processes this information is described in Apple’s privacy policy. The legal basis is providing the feature you request in the app (Article 6(1)(b) GDPR).
The app shows advertising through Google AdMob (Google Mobile Ads SDK). In the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom and Switzerland the app asks for your consent through Google’s User Messaging Platform (UMP) before ads load. The app uses the device’s advertising identifier (IDFA) only after you have consented through Apple’s App Tracking Transparency (ATT). If you decline, you can keep using the app and the advertising is not personalized.
In doing so, Google AdMob processes in particular the approximate location (derived from the IP address), device identifiers such as the IDFA (only with your consent), advertising data, information on interaction with ads and the app, and diagnostic data. You can change your choice at any time in the app under Settings > “Privacy options”, which opens Google’s consent form. You can reset the advertising ID in the device settings.
The legal basis for personalized advertising and for use of the advertising identifier is your consent (Article 6(1)(a) GDPR). Non-personalized advertising is based on our legitimate interest in funding the app (Article 6(1)(f) GDPR). You withdraw consent in the app under Settings > “Privacy options”. You can object to processing based on legitimate interests using the contact address in the “Controller” section. The lawfulness of processing until withdrawal or objection is not affected.
How Google uses information from apps that use its services is described in Google’s notice for sites and apps that use Google services. Google’s privacy policy also applies. Google may transfer data to the United States.
In-app purchases, the “HarleyMobile Plus” subscription (monthly) and the one-time “Remove ads” purchase, are processed by Apple via the App Store. We receive no payment data. You manage and cancel your subscription through your Apple Account. The legal basis is performance of the purchase (Article 6(1)(b) GDPR). Apple’s privacy policy applies to that processing.
The app is not directed at persons under 16.
The controller and the contact details are the same as in the “Controller” section of this policy. This app section was last updated on 2 November 2026.
Changes to this policy
We update this policy when the processing changes. The version published on this page applies. Last updated: October 2026.
